Kent’s James Tredwell wants to secure a place in the England team, having been selected for the limited overs tour of the Caribbean and the ICC World T20 in Bangladesh.
Tredwell has played 27 ODIs and eight T20 internationals for England, and is the senior spin bowler selected in the squads for both the tour of the West Indies and the Twenty20 World Cup. New call-up Stephen Parry of Lancashire is the only other specialist spinner in either squad.
“It’s nice to be part of your national squad and team, so obviously I’m looking forward to the rest of the winter now”, Tredwell told KSN.
“It’s nice to be home for a couple of weeks after what’s been a tough tour [in Australia], and I’m looking forward to improving on that over the coming weeks when we get out to the West Indies.”
Following England’s 5-0 defeat in The Ashes series Down Under, they were defeated 4-1 in the five-match ODI series, and 3-0 in the Twenty20 series.
“It’s one to remember, isn’t it?! Obviously it’s [Australia] a great place to tour – there’s a great cricketing tradition over there and it’s always a tough place to go.
“It’s the kind of tour that you hope you can come out the other side stronger. If you’ve learnt from the bad things that happen on a tour like that, then hopefully as individuals and as a team it can stand you in good stead.”
As the senior spinner in the squad, Tredwell said that he would not be looking to do anything differently when he joins up with the squad in a few weeks time.
“I guess there is [more responsibility]. But we’re all in the squad together and obviously there are going to be big decisions in terms of the team’s final XI.”
“In terms of how I approach it, it’s not going to be much different from any other tour that I’ve been on – I’ll just try and get out there, perform as well as I can in the nets and hopefully I’ll get in the starting eleven and put what I can do out on the field and see where that gets me.”
