Kent captain James Tredwell is looking to bring in another couple of signings over the winter to bolster the squad.Cricket - Kent CCC v Cardiff MCCU

With Matt Coles already having decided to leave the club at the end of the season and Mike Powell seemingly surplus to requirements, Kent will have a budget to go out and bring in some fresh faces.

Now is the time of year where clubs begin to look towards next season and Kent are no different with Tredwell telling KSN how they are working on potential targets:

“We’ve got a couple. I think we are a bit short in a couple of areas so hopefully we can get a couple in.”

“I think with Mitch (Claydon) being around, it is pretty evident that we are interested in him, so hopefully we can get that one done.”

“There are a couple of others we are keeping our eye on. We’ve got some good players here, we just need to build on what we’ve got and put on a better showing next year than we have this year.”

On Monday evening, Kent Spitfires ended their YB40 campaign with a five wicket defeat to group winners Nottinghamshire Outlaws, but Tredwell was pleased with the potential shown by some of the club’s younger stars:

“When you’ve got England’s Twenty 20 opening pair coming at you it can be a bit tough, but in the middle period we couldn’t tie them down at any point.”

“I think we needed another twenty or thirty runs and that might have made it a bit more interesting, but they showed their class.”

“We realised we were a little bit short, but fought as hard as we could and nearly got there and that showed the character we have in our group.”

“I think throughout this campaign we’ve had real strong learning points and I think the way they’ve learnt to tick the bowling over and not get tied down is something we need to learn from.”

“We’ve been guilty of getting tied down against the slower bowlers in One Day cricket and Notts showed us the way to go about it.”

Kent will now switch their attention to their final four County Championship games of the season starting with the game away to Glamorgan next week and Tredwell believes it could be the ideal chance to finish the season on a high, but doesn’t anticipate being available himself as he will now be on international duty with England over the next three weeks:

“It’s a nice way to finish the season as you can concentrate on those four games back to back and batting for long periods or getting lots of overs under your belt.”

“I think my last One Day game is the day before the Northants game if selected, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play in that.”

“It’s disappointing that I’m not going to be around Kent and be in charge, but that’s part of it and my career’s as important as everyone elses and hopefully while I’m away the lads will get us a couple of results.”

Tredwell is expected to take his place in the England side as they take on Australia in the Twenty 20 match at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday evening.
