Kent spinner James Tredwell has told KSN how he wants to commit his long term future to the county.
The 29 year old will be out of contract at the end of next summer and has already begun talks, albeit informally, about extending that deal for longer.
“I did have a chat with Jamie (Clifford) a couple of weeks ago but that was more about getting a heads-up as to the direction the club was going in.” said Tredwell.
“Those things did come up but we haven’t talked about it further. Hopefully they want to keep me, if they didn’t I’d be slightly disappointed but we’ll see where that one goes really.”
“Obviously for me it depends on a lot of things really, I’m a Kent lad and want to play for Kent as long as possible so hopefully the club can do the right things in terms of the cricket side of things and and keep not just me but the rest of the senior lads as well.”
Tredwell is a number of senior players that will be looking to agree new deals at Canterbury over the winter months, with Robert Key, Geraint Jones and Darren Stevens all set to hold talks with the management in the coming weeks.
When they return to full-time training in the New Year there could well be a new coach in place after Paul Farbrace’s departure and Tredwell admitted that he hadn’t been greatly affected as yet:
“I guess we haven’t really noticed any real changes as yet. I have been working with Pete Kelly, our fitness trainer, trying to get my hamstring right.”
“I’m sure we’ll notice the change when we get back to hitting some balls again. I have seen that they have advertised for the job, so hopefully that can be filled pretty quickly.”
Although the off-spinner had been overlooked for England duty so far this winter, Tredwell is still keen to play a part in England’s series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the New Year.
However, he did admit it was nice to be at home catching up with family life:
“Obviously I would have loved to have been involved with England but with a four month old now it’s nice to enjoy the time that otherwise I would have missed.”
James Tredwell made his debut for Kent in 2000 and has played in over 370 games for the county along with one Test and five One Day Internationals for England.
