Kent spinner James Tredwell has spoken of his relief that colleague Darren Stevens has been cleared to carry on his playing career.Cricket - ICC Champions Trophy - Semi Final - England v South Africa - The Kia Oval

Stevens was cleared of the two charges he faces over in Bangladesh on Wednesday and will now join up with the Kent squad ahead of the 2014 campaign.

For Tredwell, who turns 32 today, the news that Stevens had been cleared was welcome:

“When we all heard that news that he’d been charged it was a real shock, because he is one of the guys that you would never think that would do something like that.”

“It’s great news in that regard, great news for Kent, great news for Stevo and brilliant news.” he told Sky Sports News.

Tredwell is currently in Antigua preparing for England’s three One Day International and three T20 games against the West Indies.

Having taken three wickets in the warm up game earlier in the week, Tredwell is hoping to take his opportunity and replace Graeme Swann in all formats:

“These three one-dayers are a big part of a lot of people’s careers. People will be looking to put their names forward for all forms of cricket.”

“We want to do it in the right way, and work on things we want to take into the Twenty20 World Cup. But equally, individuals want to put their names forward – which is a promising place to be, really.”

“It’s an exciting time. You’ve got a lot of exciting younger players … and some exciting senior ones as well!”

“I need to make sure I get myself in the team, first and foremost, and then take those opportunities.”

“I’m sure the other guys, with the options we’ve got in the spin department, will be trying to do the same thing.”

Tredwell be looking to put in a solid performance when England face West Indies in the First One Day International on Friday.
