James Tredwell is considering standing down from the position of Kent captain to focus on his international career.
The 31 year old spinner is juggling with the decision to stay on as skipper at Kent, but risking his chances of playing for England.
Tredwell found himself missing out on selection by England for the Ashes this winter and that’s made him consider his position at Kent and he told KSN how he’s planning on thinking about his future in the next few weeks:
“Being away means I can’t properly put my stamp on the team but, individually, I have to give playing for England the best chance so maybe someone new should take over.”
“At some stage I’d like to lead the boys again but I really have found it very tough this season.”
Tredwell’s own form has been patchy at best this season, regularly being called up by England for One Day and Twenty 20 duty and the spinner believes something will have to give in the long run:
“As much as I enjoy the job I don’t think I do it justice,” added Tredwell.
“This season I haven’t performed as well as I would like. If I can combine playing for England and being Kent captain then great, but international cricket is where I want to be.”
KSN understands that Geraint Jones wouldn’t want to be considered for the job in the long term, with Sam Northeast the likely candidate to succeed Tredwell if he stands down.
