Kent off-spinner James Tredwell has been added to the England Test squad following Graeme Swann’s retirement from international cricket.
Tredwell will join up with the England squad ahead of the Fifth Ashes Test in Sydney which starts on January 3rd 2014.
Meanwhile, Durham leg spinner Scott Borthwick has been brought in as cover for the Fourth Test match that starts on Boxing Day in Melbourne.
Tredwell will arrive in Melbourne during the fourth Test and will begin training with his team-mates ahead of the final game of the five match series which England currently trail 3-0.
The 31 year old is no stranger to England duty having played 24 One Day Internationals and 7 Twenty 20 Internationals and was already set to head to Australia in the New Year for the limited overs series.
He will be looking to add to his one Test cap which he received in March 2010 when he took six wickets in the win over Bangladesh.
Tredwell commented on his call up: “I’ve been fortunate to have been involved in a few cricketing trips to Australia and it’s great to be involved again. It’s a huge honour to be selected; it makes me massively proud and I hope to play my part.”
Meanwhile, the Kent off spinner paid tribute to the retiring Graeme Swann:
“He’s been a hugely fine performer for our country. Obviously there may be some opportunities for some people, and they may play two spinners. I’m looking forward to being in the right shape to play if needed.”
