A combination of poor defending and controversial officiating saw Bromley’s run of six league wins come to an end at Prenton Park on Saturday.
On what was still a momentous occassion for The Ravens they came up against tough opponents who also got the rub of the green when it came to decisions.
The home side started well, but Bromley battled to get into things, Recce Prestedge had a header saved, but the final ball was often lacking and Rovers did a sterling job closing down The Ravens main attacking threats in Anthony Cook, Louis Dennis and Moses Emmanuel.
When they did get through Emmanuel was denied by Scott Davies as he tried to chip him and he also just shot wide soon after.
After a good spell from Bromley, the home side took the lead when Rob Swaine was caught ball watching and Andy Mangan nipped in behind him to smash the ball past Chris Kettings from a tight angle.
Soon after Jon Margetts forced a save from the young Scottish keeper on loan from Crystal Palace and the he hit the post with the rebound.
The controversial moment of the first half came late on when Emmanuel broke clear and Tranmere keeper Davies slid out from his box to push the ball away from the striker with both hands clearly three feet out of his area.
Incredibly neither referee or linesman saw it, although everyone else in the stadium did. Bromley protests at the injustice fell on deaf ears as half time came.
With manager Mark Goldberg absent, the coaching staff took too long to make subs in the second half, by which time the game was gone.
In the 52nd minute Swaine made another howler as he passed the ball to Adam Mekki who crossed for Margetts to make it 2-0.
Then the second piece of awful refereeing saw Rovers awarded a penalty when Margetts went down in the box with no Bromley player within a yard of him.
Mangan tucked away the spot kick to end any hopes of a comeback. Bromley failed to play the way they can and some players looked like they froze in front of a big crowd in a Championship standard ground.
In the final few minutes, sub Lee Minshull back after two motnhs out, was sent off for an off the ball incident which neither official saw, but were alerted to by the home players.
As deserved as the card was, the decision was only based on what they were told.
In inury time Jay Harris shot narrowly over before Margetts made it 4-0 with a powerful well taken finish.
Cook went close with a free kick but, Bromley were left feeling beaten by a better side, but also let down by the match officials.
The Ravens now travel to Welling Utd on Tuesday for a local derby hoping this is a blip in for rather than anything more drastic.
