The rumours surrounding Paulo Gazzaniga’s departure from Gillingham are gathering pace as it seemed as though he hadn’t travelled to France with the rest of the squad.
Gazzaniga has been linked with a move to a Premier League side this summer with Southampton believed to be one of the sides interested in capturing the 20 year old goalkeeper.
Since signing for the Gills last summer after being released by Valencia, Gazzaniga has shown he is more than comfortable playing in League Two after coming in for the injured Ross Flitney half way through the season and a £1 million price tag was put on his head by former boss Andy Hessenthaler.
New manager Martin Allen did little to stop the rumours of his departure, having this to say to Talksport last weekend:
“He’s a fantastic keeper and it looks as though he’ll be going off to a Premier League team, so for a club like Gillingham it will be a big boost to get some money in and crack on.”
Whilst the rest of the squad were facing a gruelling four days training camp in Le Touquet, Gazzaniga is believed to have stayed back in the UK, with midfielder Jack Payne also rumoured not to have travelled with the squad.
Meanwhile, a return for former skipper Michael Flynn looks more likely after he was pictured amongst those that have made the trip to France.
