Improving Tower Hamlets entertain promotion chasing Glebe in a Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division match on Wednesday evening.
A month ago, the game between the teams who are second from bottom against third from top, might have been a foregone conclusion, but now it might not be quite so straightforward.
The hosts doubled their points tally for the season with two victories before their defeat on Saturday at home to K Sports. Meanwhile, Glebe had only collected two points out of nine before their outstanding victory over Sheppey United last week.
Tower Hamlets two wins, which could be crucial in their fight against relegation, were both by the score of three-two. First they defeated Erith Town at home then they won at Erith and Belvedere. Benas Valvada scored three goals over the two matches.
Glebe followed up their victory over Sheppey with a hard fought Kent F.A. Senior Trophy win at Deal Town. When Jamie Philpot put them ahead from the penalty spot with ten minutes left they hoped that they were through but Joe Reeves levelled to take the tie into extra time. There were two minutes remaining when Glebe were awarded another penalty and Philpot converted again to win it.
With both teams capable of scoring goals, this could be an open match at Phoenix Sports’ Mayplace Ground on the Barnehurst/Crayford borders.
