Kent’s Brad Ray had a tough weekend in the latest round of the World Superbike Championship in Spain, as he came away with nothing to show for his efforts.
Having qualified in 21st place Ray was hoping he could push forward and challenge for some points in race one. He did get away well and managed to move forward to 18th place. That was ultimately where the Kent rider would finish, three places outside the points paying positions.
Speaking after race one, Ray said: “I’m happy with the progress made in race 1. Although the end result wasn’t great, we seem to have found a direction in which to work with the bike. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s races when we can hopefully keep improving our performance.
On Sunday Ray was hoping to push further forward and be challenging for a points finish. In the ten lap sprint race, unfortunately Brad couldn’t make any further progress and finished 22nd at the line.
The longer race two on Sunday afternoon didn’t go to plan. As Ray on lap three crashed out and whilst he was uninjured he couldn’t continue in the race, making it a disappointing Spanish round for the young Brit.
Speaking at the end of the weekend, Ray said: “A tough Sunday for me and the team. In the Superpole race, the front tyre quickly wore, while in Race 2 I crashed through sector 1, taking Lecuona down with me, which I am very sorry about.
“The only thing we can do is try to quickly find a way out of this situation. I’m really sorry about the lack of results so far, and the crash, and apologise to my team, after all their hard work, but I’m sure we’ll be able to come back stronger.
