As weekends go it wasn’t the best for Kent’s Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in the latest round of the GP2 season in Germany.
Having started on the back of the grid for race one he wouldn’t finish the race due to a crash on the opening lap, in race two he started from the back of the grid before finishing 16th.
The incident in race one happened after he uncharacteristically stalled on the line as the lights went out, he was then collected by Kevin Ceccon as he sat motionless, there was nothing either driver could do as Cesson was already in a barrel role after a collision with another car.
The 22-year-olds car needed extensive repairs and the MP Motorsport team worked hard to get the car race worthy for the Sprint race the next day.
He started from the back of the grid and but for an issue with his breaks meant that he couldn’t build on the five places he made at the start.
Giving his reaction to one of the toughest weekends he has had since joining GP2, Adrian said: “Overall there are a lot of positives to take from the weekend. We had great pace in both practice and qualifying, but unfortunately I caught a lot of cars on my quick lap, without which I’m sure could have netted the third fastest time. However I lost the advantage I had with the traffic, but we’ve proved once again we are able to fight for the top spot.
“Race one was naturally disappointing. I made a rare error at the lights and stalled, and once I was hit up the back, there was too much damage to continue. Thankfully we both managed to get out uninjured, however my car was pretty badly damaged too.
“In the second race the car didn’t handle as well as it should, mainly the braking and steering, which prevented me from capitalising on my good start. I made up around five places, but the problems, which although weren’t detrimental to safety, nevertheless affected the performance.”
The season now heads into a three week break before they head to the Hungaroring for the latest round at the end of July.
