Gills Ladies came from behind on Sunday afternoon to secure a very well deserved point and stopped a run of back to back defeats.
Danni Farmer scored the Ladies goal with some quick thinking with a free kick with 80 minutes on the clock as the Gills got their first points since the opening day of the season.
The game was fairly even in the opening stages when it became a battle of the midfields before Spurs started to gain the upper hand. They created a few chances of note but nothing that troubled Sarah Quantrill making her debut in the Gills goal.
Spurs went ahead in the 22nd minute when a corner was only half cleared and when the ball was sent back into the box Spurs were left unmarked to head home and make it 1-0.
The Gills started to work their way back into the game as the half went on and they created two chances that on another day could have gone in.
The first chance came from a Vicky Ashton-Jones free-kick that was headed straight at the Spurs keeper by one of their own defenders, who was attempting to clear her lines.
On the stroke of half time Danni Farmer sent a corner into the area that was only half cleared to Jodie Mugford, but she saw her goal bound effort deflected over the bar.
Half Time 1-0
In the second half the Gills began to dominate the game and the goal that they deserved was always going to come. Natalie Crinean created the first chance of the half after a great turn, but her shot flew over the cross bar.
Danni Farmer missed a gilt edged chance after being played through by Bryony Smith, with only the keeper to beat Farmer managed to find her from eight yards out.
The Gills were down to ten players for the final twenty minutes of the game after a nasty collision left Sian Cheedy needing hospital treatment for a lip injury, the Ladies had already used their three substitutes.
A moment of magic and quick thinking from Captain Danni Farmer saw the Gills draw level. Natalie Crinean was fouled from 20 yards out and Farmer took a quick free-kick after noticing the keeper was out of position, and her kick flew into the corner of the net.
The Gills closed the game out with ten players and took a well deserved and earned point back down the M25 to Kent and moved up to 7th in the Southern Premiership in the process.
