At the home of British motorsport the Wrotham based Oman Air Motorbase team netted a solid top ten finish.
It was the fourth round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at the end of May that saw them finish the three hour race in ninth place.
It wasn’t an easy weekend for the team as they had to deal with their usual 75kg of success ballast on the car due to the grading system of the car driven by Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Caine.
They battled their way up from 17th place in what was the biggest grid of the GT season, with an impressive 46 cars, they then lost a lap during a pace car period due to an organiser error.
Since the race Al Harthy has been back at Silverstone racing the latest round the Blancpain Endurance Series, from which he emerged victorious in the GTR class, this came shortly after he tested at Snetterton with the Motorbase team as well.
The Oman Air squad have scored in every single round of the British GT season so far and it could have been a top six finish at Silverstone, bar for a late stop go penalty.
Reflecting on the race weekend, Ahmad said: “It was a race full of excitement due to so many Safety Car periods, with people running very different strategies, it was a tough race. We want results, we believe our pace deserves results, but it was unfortunately a day where some things out of our control got in the way. The penalty near the end was crucial in costing us a few positions but, overall, it was a good weekend.
“Racing at Silverstone in British GT really helped prepare me for the Blancpain race, and that was a big consideration for us when we made our plans for this season.”
Team Boss David Bartrum was left a little frustrated by the incident earlier in the race that cost them a lap through no fault of their own.
He said: “The safety car picked up the wrong driver and didn’t wave us by and we lost a lap because of that. I went to see the race director, but he was adamant that he was right. After the race, he had another look at it and realised that he was wrong, but there was nothing he could do about it.
“Then we had a stop/go penalty when the pit stop was a fraction too short. So we ended up ninth, but we were the only surviving Porsche after the accidents for the three Trackspeed cars.”
The team will next be in action at Snetterton for round four of the season over the weekend the 15th and 16th of June.
