Leon Camier netted a pair of top ten finishes in his first outing for new team MV Agusta in the World Superbike Championship at the weekend.
Camier joined the team to be their sole rider in the WSB on a two year doing the winter and he took the track on their bike for the first time in the season opener at Phillip Island in Australia.
Going into the first two races of the season in the early hours of Sunday Morning, Camier would start from 14th on the grid, having originally had the 15th fastest time he was promoted to 14th after an infringement of another rider was uncovered.
In race one he had some fantastic battles with Matteao Baiocco and Randy De Puniet as well as the returning legend in Troy Baylis. Eventually his pace and tenacity ensured that he got passed the trio and finished in the top ten for the first time with his new team.
Race two couldn’t have gone much better for the man from Ashford as he fought his way up through the field from his 14th place grid slot.
Once again he would be battling with Baiocco as the laps ticked down towards the end of the race, as well as Roman Ramos. He got the better of the both in the closing stages of the race, before coming over the finish line in 8th place.
It was a good return to the World Superbikes and the 2015 season for Leon, who takes 14 points away from the opening round of the weekend.
Speaking after the weekends racing, he said: “I tried to be as smooth as possible, looking after the tyres and saving them for the end and it turned out well. I’m quite pleased because the F4 RC responds well to the adjustments and that’s why were able to improve and bring home this big little result: coming in firmly in the top-ten”. A big thank you to my team as well. They did a really great job.”
