The Lilywhites came from behind after an early concession and were perhaps on reflection unlucky not to take home maximum points.

Starting lethargically the visitors found themselves behind early on as Jake Baxter was allowed the freedom of the penalty area to head home Ashley Robinson’s long ball into the box, looping it over the helpless William Godmon.

Whilst both sides were prepared to pass the ball around, both lacked conviction especially in the final third although where chances were created it was the visitors looking the most likely to score.

With Liam King looking lively and dangerous at times, George Monger was also making a positive impact in the centre of the park and especially from set-pieces.

Monger’s influence saw a blocked free-kick blazed over by Jamie Maxted and with a better chance Matthew Bourne could only scuff his shot towards goal – The hosts hastily clearing the danger.

Monger then saw a free kick from range find the target but home ‘keeper Sheikh Ceesay was equal to it comfortably gathering the ball.

The Lilywhites almost got on level terms via a swift break and quick thinking by ‘keeper Godmon – Saving a shot from range by Robinson he quickly released the ball to King who could only direct his effort over the bar.

On the cusp of the break the visitors drew level as the ball broke kindly to Josh Stanford on the edge of the penalty area who found Ceesay’s bottom left hand corner.

Despite the break the visitors continued to be in the ascendency as only 24 seconds into the second half Charley Robertson linked up well with Stanford and King but saw his shot from range go narrowly wide.

And Daniel Carrington should really have scored after good work by first half substitute Ashley Brown but he could only shoot high over the bar when well placed in front of goal.

Dean Grant was next in line for The Lilywhites but he saw his close-range header well saved and parried away by Ceesay.

With chances on goal going begging the hosts could still nick it as their on-loan play-maker Chace O’Neill became more influential as the game wore on and The Lilywhites’ front two became more isolated.

Home front-man Serge Makofo found space and a sight on goal but rushed his effort as Godmon watched it sail over the bar with the visitors’ keeper later pulling off an excellent low save to his left as O’Neill’s goal-bound effort was kept out.

As the game ebbed away and with almost the final kick of the game Robertson lined up a free kick on left side of the penalty area, sending his right footed curling effort crashing off the crossbar – As the ball rebounded away from goal the referee saw fit to bring an end to proceedings.

The Lilywhites remain in the playoff places as the season comes to an end – Three points clear of those leading the chase with only four games, twelve points, left to play for.
