Tonbridge gym eyeing the big five

High flying Tonbridge gym The Strength & Conditioning Institute (The SCI) are celebrating being shortlisted for an incredible five prestigious industry awards.

The SCI is a finalist in the Regional Gym of the Year (South), Functional Training Gym of the Year, Customer Service Award, Member Achievement Award and Gym Based Personal Trainer of the Year categories in the 2017 National Fitness Awards, which recognise excellence, innovation and achievement in the fitness sector.

The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading fitness industry magazine Workout, with support from ServiceSport. The SCI has been selected alongside up to seven other finalists in each category, who will now go through to the next stage of the judging process involving a site visit and interview. Overall winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony on 1st December.

Fitness industry leaders The SCI were recognised by the National Fitness Awards in both 2015 & 2016, and have also been commended by Kent-based schemes KEiBA and the Times Business Awards. At this year’s National Fitness Awards they are finalists in two new categories, with SCI Senior Coach Craig Libby shortlisted as one of the very best personal trainers in the whole country. SCI member and Team GB Paraclimber Josh Senior is also shortlisted for an individual award, recognising his journey and rehabilitation progress following a serious injury in 2010 that left him paralysed and facing a below-knee amputation.

National Fitness Awards’ event director Judith Halkerston said: “All our shortlisted facilities should be really proud of their achievements in being chosen as a finalist, as the calibre of entries has been amazing.”

Director and Head Coach at The SCI, Alex Shoebridge, said: “The whole team is seriously over the moon to be finalists for five awards, and we cannot wait to share the news with our members and the community, who are just as passionate about what we do as we are. They are the reason we strive to provide world-class services and facilities, and news this proves we are living up to our mantra of being No Ordinary Gym.”

Fellow Director and Head Coach at The SCI, Martin Shyvers, said: “The breadth of categories that The SCI is shortlisted in for this year’s National Fitness Awards demonstrates that we’re doing so many things right – from recruiting and coaching the very best trainers right through to the level of care we deliver to our members every day. Alex and I are so proud of the unique concept that we first set up in 2012, and how we have evolved and grown the business to be one of the very best gyms in the country.”
