What a topsy turvey game as first Tonbridge were in front then Leatherhead belied their league position & took control only for Tonbridge to come back & gain a point which keeps them in the hunt for a playoff place.
The game started well for Tonbridge as in the 2nd minute a Nick Wheeler free kick into the area was flicked on & Nathan Elder & a defender on the far post challenged for it & the ball went just past the post for a corner.
Two minutes later they took the lead when a free kick on the left side of the area was curled into the area by Wheeler & evaded everyone & ended up in the net.
Leatherhead playing some neat football only took 8 minutes to equalise when a long ball forward saw Daniel Carr latch onto it & go round Anthony Di-Bernardo & stroke into the empty net. Leatherhead were now in control & playing some nice football & in the 30th minute D’Sean Theobalds in the area passed to the feet of Carr but his shot from 10 yards was easily saved.
Two minutes later they nearly took the lead when a corner to the back post was half cleared & Theobalds retrieved it & he jinked inside & his shot was deflected goal wards by Joe Howe but Di-Bernado saved it. In the 34th minute they finally got their lead their possession deserved when Kadell Daniel on the left cut in & shot into the top left hand corner.
Two minutes later in a rare attack Tom Phipp tried his luck from 30 yards but Louie Wells saved it. Leatherhead increased their lead in the 44th minute when Tyrone Smith on the edge of the area curled his shot into the bottom right hand corner.
The second half started like the first with Tonbridge on the ascendency especially as words would have been said at half time by Steve McKimm when in the 48th minute Phipp moving forward scored the goal of the game when he chipped Wells from 30 yards & 6 minutes later Leatherhead had a chance to restore their two goal lead when Theobalds in the area saw his shot superbly pushed away by Di-Bernardo.
A minute later Wheeler on the left crossed to the back post where Elder was & his header went just past the post. In the 67th minute Phipp 40 yards out saw the keeper off his line & took a free kick quickly the result the ball went just over the bar.
In the 69th minute Smith 25 yards out saw his screamer go just past the post & in the very next minute Tonbridge were level when Tom Parkinson skipped past a couple of defenders & crossed into the area where Elder rose & headed in from 8 yards, three minutes later & Tonbridge could have gone in front when substitute Luke Allen only on for three minutes was put through but with his first touch his shot was saved by Well’s legs.
Three minutes later & Tonbridge took the lead when Jack Parter in the area saw his shot hit the net. After the goal Leatherhead manager Jimmy Bullard was sent off for complaining too vehemently but this did not seem to affect them & Leatherhead were not to be beaten as in the 78th minute a Mohammed Sagaf free kick wide on the left was curled in & evaded everyone & ended up in the back of the net.
In the 80th minute Allen breaking through was challenged in the area with the majority of the crowd baying for a penalty but the referee played on, three minutes later a Phipp free kick was half cleared to Luke Blewden whose volley shot was saved by Wells.
In the 4th minute off added on time Carr nearly pinched it for Leatherhead as he broke through went into the area before shooting but Di-Bernado saved the day for Tonbridge by pushing it away.
