Tonbridge Angels ended their eight-game losing streak with a three-all draw against Hemel Hempstead, but boy did they leave it late to comeback and snatch a point from the jaws of defeat.
The game started with Tonbridge taking the game to Hemel and in the fifth minute they took the lead when debutant Sean Shields on the left went on a mazy run into the area, saw his shot from 15 yards parried away by Craig King but only to Sonny Fish but his shot was blocked. The ball came out to Jordan Greenidge who stroked it into the net to score against his former club.
Hemel took this on the chin and came out and took the game to Tonbridge, in the tenth minute George Williams saw his 30 yard effort go past the post but two minutes later they were level when Josh Hill’s long ball forward found Bailey Brown on the edge of the area, he went into the area went round Jon Henly and shot home.
Eight minutes later they went in front when out of the blue George Williams saw his 18-yard effort beat Henly. Hemel were now dominating the game but did not create any chances. Then in the 36th minute Shields on the left cut inside the area, dinked the ball into the area for Greenidge but his header from six yards went wide.
Then five minutes later Tonbridge could have equalised when Jernade Meade put Greenidge in the area, his shot unopposed from 15 yards was saved by King’s legs.
A minute later they had equalised when Greenidge latched onto a long ball went into the area but was tackled, the ball went sideways to Shields who shot home from six yards.
Again, this did not seem to worry Hemel as in the 44th minute Brown latched onto a flick on and saw his shot from 18 yards go over the bar.
In the first minute of added on time a Tonbridge corner was half cleared to Ben Swift 20 yards out, his goal bound shot was deflected over the bar by Kodi Lyons-Foster.
The second half was only four minutes old when a long ball forward found Fish, from 20 yards he saw King rushing out, so he tried a lob but under pressure it went over the bar.
The game then went a bit quiet as both teams cancelled each other out then in the 70th minute Shields from halfway went forward and his 20-yard shot was parried away by King for a corner.
In the 75th minute Alfie Matthews in the area saw his shot saved by Henly. Then three minutes later Josh Williams saw his 25-yard shot beat Henly to put Hemel in front again.
Just a minute later Greenidge received his second Yellow and was sent off just three minutes after being for the first time, leaving a mountain to climb to get anything out of the game.
The game saw Tonbridge throw everything at Hemel without causing any problems then in the 5th minute of added on time Tonbridge got the equaliser when the ball was bouncing around the edge of the area. The ball was sent into the area where Fish went for it but was fouled, a penalty was given, up stepped Lewis Gard who shot straight down the middle.
The final whistle went, and it was relief for Tonbridge as it stopped their losing run.
