Steve McKimm got the response he wanted after Saturday’s woeful performance & three valuable points in their quest for promotion.
The game started with Enfield taking the game to Tonbridge & in the 15th minute Corey Whiteley on the left cut in & saw his shot from 20 yards pushed around the post by Anthony Di Bernardo. Two minutes later a Billy Crook free kick into the area found Claudio Vilcu on his own 15 yards out but he headed wide.
A minute later it was Tonbridge’s first chance when Luke Blewden latched on to a ball on the left wing & his pass inside found Bradley Wood-Garness & his shot from 20 yards was easily saved by Nathan McDonald. In the 25th minute Tonbridge took the lead when Nicky Wheeler’s corner went under the crossbar forcing McDonald to punch clear but only to Sonny Miles who from 8 yards shot home.
Enfield got back in the game when in the 34th minute a corner was punched clear by Di Bernardo but the ball was crossed to the far post where Whitely was & his shot from 15 yards went into the empty net with Di Bernardo in no man’s land. Half time arrived & both sides would be pleased with the outcome.
The second half was only 5 minutes old when Enfield had the ball in the Tonbridge area forcing the defence to hack clear & Tom Parkinson just outside his own area picked the clearance up & ran forward towards the halfway line before sliding the ball forward into the path of Blewden who ran into the area & slotted the ball past McDonald.
In the 56th minute a free kick into the Tonbridge area was headed goal wards but saved acrobatically by Di Bernardo. Tonbridge responded to this & took control with Enfield relying on their pacey forwards to create chances & in the 61st minute a Wheeler free kick into the area found Parkinson & his header forced McDonald to push it around the post.
Three minutes later Tonbridge increased their lead when Di Bernardo’s long clearance was flicked on for Blewden to run on to & once in the area he shot past McDonald. Enfield to their credit kept trying & in the 68th minute nice work from the left to the right saw Crook try his luck from 20 yards but it went wide & in the 82nd minute Mickey Parcell in the area got to the by-line & his cross shot was bravely saved by Di Bernardo with two forwards trying to get to it.
Tonbridge played out the remaining minutes in comfort & fully deserved their victory although it probably wasn’t their best performance but getting the three points & playing alright is what the doctor ordered at this stage of the season.
