Tonbridge got back to winning ways & moved up to 6th in the table after beating 10 men Canvey with two goals in the last three minutes.
The first half was a tale of firstly Canvey in charge then as the half wore on Tonbridge started to take control of the game. The first chance of the game came in the 13th minute when Mitch Gilbey’s free kick was easily saved by Tony Di-Bernardo from 20 yards then in the 18th minute Ashley Dumas put George Sykes in on goal & he beat Di-Bernardo but Tom Parkinson raced backed & cleared of the line & conceded a corner.
In the 23rd minute Tonbridge had their first chance when Alex Akrofi received the ball 20 yards & his shot was saved by Lewis Moore. Four minutes later Sykes 30 yards out passed forward into the path of Dumas who’s shot from 20 yards went wide. The rest of the half belonged to Tonbridge without really causing many problems.
In the 30th minute a long throw into the area by Luke Blewden found Mitchell Nelson but his header was saved by Moore & a minute later Bradley Fortnum-Tomlinson tried his luck from the edge of the area but it went wide, a minute later a cross into the area found Blewden but his flicked header was saved.
Canvey’s Tamberson Eyong put his team in trouble a minute into the second half when he recklessly went on Damien Scannell & received his second yellow. Tonbridge would now control the game whilst Canvey would rely on breakaways. In the 50th minute Akrofi was inches away from scoring when Tom Phipp’s header back across goal was just beyond him.
In the 61st minute Ugo Udogi received the ball from Phipp & went on a mazy run towards goal & then tried his luck but it went wide. The next minute Tonbridge opened the scoring when Phipp passed the ball wide for Substitute Tommy Whitnell & from the by-line his low cross was smashed in from 3 yards by Blewden.
Eight minutes later a chance to increase their lead came when Akrofi in the area saw his shot blocked & come out to Blewden & his curling effort from 15 yards went just past the post.
Two minutes later Jack Parter got to the by-line & his low cross found Akrofi but his shot was blocked. Canvey were holding on albeit with little possession then in the 87th minute Moore had a rush of blood & came out of his area to clear the ball but Blewden 30 yards out got to it first & went round him & his goal bound effort was cleared of the line by John Mbamarah, but sixty seconds later it was two when Akrofi rode a tackle 130 yards out & raced away into the area & then smashed it past Moore & then the icing on the cake came in the first minute off added on time when Moore again came rushing out of his area to the right wing to tackle Damien Scannell but he was quicker & his shot from 25 yards out on the left wing sailed into the empty net.
The full time whistle went & most of the crowd would go home happy especially after Saturday’s result against Staines.
