Tonbridge Angels’ woes continued as they lost this six pointer against relegation rivals Maidenhead United.
The game started so well for Tonbridge as in the 3rd minute David Ijaha passed out wide for Nathan Pinney to chase & he got to it before the defender & then went into the area & from an acute angle 2 yards out slipped the ball through Elvijs Putnins legs.
Maidenhead were rocked by this but came back strongly as in the 7th minute a ball into the area found Harry Pritchard on his own but his shot from 15 yards was saved by Lewis Carey.
Three minutes later Harry Grant moving forward saw his 25 yards effort parried away by Carey.
In the 16th minute the ball was bouncing around the Tonbridge area & eventually Danny Green shot in from 8 yards. Maidenhead were now in control of the game without causing to many problems, Tonbridge weathered the storm & looked likely to stay in the game but in the 34th minute Harry Pritchard’s ball across the area found Green on his own & from 15 yards he shot home.
As the half closed Tonbridge had three good chances to equalise when in the 39th minute Chris Piper laid the ball down the line for Pinney who went into the area before shooting causing Putnims to turn around the post for a corner.
The best chance came a minute later when Lee Browning passed to Ijaha in the area & his cut back found Mark Lovell but from ten yards he blazed his shot over the bar & then right on half time Pinney passed to Lovell but his weak shot was easily saved by Putnims.
The second half started with Tonbridge on the front foot after Tommy Warrilow’s team talk got them going & in the 48th minute a ball in the six yard box saw nobody wanting to shoot but it eventually came back to Pinney whose shot was blocked.
In the 53rd minute a corner by Nathan Green found Gary Elphick on the far post & his header forced Putnims to push it around the post & from the resulting corner Tonbridge equalised when the corner by Green went to the back post where it was headed towards goal by Elphick for Lovell who from 2 yards smashed it in.
Maidenhead were on the back foot for a while & then their first chance of the half came in the 64th minute when Pritchard ran from halfway & his shot from 20 yards was saved by Carey.
In the 79th minute Tonbridge could have taken the lead when a corner to the back post was half cleared to Ijaha but from 10 yards he blazed his shot over the bar & in the very next minute Maidenhead regained the lead when the ball in the area bounced around & eventually Green 6 yards out headed in for his hat trick.
Tonbridge had a chance to get back even when in the 83rd minute Piper on the right cut inside & his shot from 20 yards was pushed away for a corner by Putnims. Then to rub salt into the wound Maidenhead got their fourth in the 89th minute when Elphick fouled Tyrell Miller-Rodney in the area & up stepped Green who shot into the top left hand corner.
