Two evenly matched sides had to settle for a draw which did little for either clubs’ slim play off hopes.
It was a dream start for the hosts when after three minutes they were awarded a penalty when keeper Ben Dudzinski brought down Alex Akrofi. Xavier Vidal converted t
he spot kick with ease giving the unfortunate Dudzinski no chance.
Things got even better for the Angels after 12 minutes when Dan Bennett’s pass put in Joe Turner who steered his shot accurately past Dudzinski to double the home side’s advantage.
There was an unfortunate clash of heads involving Tonbridge’s Jack Parter and Lowestoft’s Daniel Humphries which resulted in an eight minute stoppage. Humphries had to be substituted while the heavily bandaged Parter was able to continue but it was the away side who seemed to make the enforced break work to their advantage. Moving the ball around well they pulled a goal back in stoppage time through Harvey Hodd and finished the first period the better side.
Lowestoft continued with their dominance in the second half and their equalising goal was fully deserved with Shaun Ramment setting up Nico Cotton in the 74th minute. At that point it looked as if the Suffolk side might go and take all the points but the introduction of Nathan Elder late on gave the Angels more bite up front and hope of a winner, with half chances falling for Bennett, Akrofi and Elder himself but it wasn’t to be.
Afterwards, Angels manager, Steve McKimm said: “Yes of course you have to be disappointed not to win the game when you go two up in the first 12 minutes at home. We didn’t keep the ball well enough and that allowed them to gain in confidence and to be fair they are a good side. That said I thought we finished the game on top and had chances to grab the winner.”
