Tonbridge Angels continued their unbeaten start with a win against Wingate & Finchley, but the result was marred by an end to their clean sheet record and an injury to Tom Beere.
Wingers Adem Ramadan and Joe Turner were in fine form today, causing many problems throughout the game for the Wingate defence. Tonbridge playmaker Tom Beere was stretchered off in the 19th minute after landing badly on his knee and hyperextending it, but he is not expected to spend long sidelined.
The first goal came in the 32nd minute, with a Jack Parter cross meeting captain Tom Parkinson’s head to put the Angels 1-0 up.
The second goal came just six minutes later, with a good free-kick by Joe Turner being headed off the bar and in by centre-back Sonny Miles.
Tonbridge’s run of five matches without conceding was ended just before the stroke of half time, with Tejan-Sie putting one past Henly from a short corner.
Wingate looked brighter in the opening minutes of the second half, but Tonbridge woke up and threatened with many chances from the attackers. Great runs by Folkes, Turner and Ramadan troubled the defence, and Whitnell came agonisingly close to scoring late on.
This result stretches the Angels’ streak to six, keeping them in sole possession of first place.
