A Christmas cheer went round Longmead as Tonbridge avenged their defeat against Harrow from the start of the season. The game was not at it best in the first half but livened up in the second.
In the first half both sides had two half chances while the rest of the half was tepid. In the 4th minute Charles Banya’s cross from the right wing found Sahr Kabba but from 10 yards his header went wide of the post, in the 28th minute a cross into the area was headed by Ryan Moss but straight at Jon Henly.
Tonbridge had their chances in the 32nd & 43rd minute, firstly a corner into the area was headed goal wards by Nathan Elder but was saved by Melvin Minter & then Chris Kinnear latched onto a loose ball & from 25 yards shot over the bar. Both Managers would have demanded more from their players in the second half.
The second half started with Tonbridge the quicker out of the blocks as in the 50th minute Xavier Vidal saw his free kick from 25 yards go just wide then in the next minute they took the lead Vidal put Alex Akrofi through & he went into the area & went round Minter despite his effort to get the ball & slotted it into the net. In the 53rd minute Tom Jelley running down the right wing saw his low cross evade everyone before being cleared.
Three minutes later Harrow had their first half chance of the half when Michael Bryan running forward forced Henly to save his shot from 20 yards, then in the next minute Akrofi 20 yards out received the ball turned & shot but Minter saved it, a minute later Bryan saw his shot 15 yards out go over the bar. In the 62nd minute Henly denied Kabba a goal when he punched clear his cross shot from the by-line, in the next minute Tonbridge could have doubled their lead when Sam Bantick running into the area was fouled & a penalty was given, up stepped Joe Turner who blasted the penalty to the left hand side but Minter made a superb save as he pushed it onto the bar & then it was cleared.
Harrow got a lifeline in the 72nd minute when a ball into the area saw a Tonbridge defender commit a foul & a penalty was given, up stepped Kurtis Cumberbatch who coolly slotted it into the bottom left hand corner, game on. Two minutes later & disaster for Harrow as Omoyayo Coker moving forward slipped & Akrofi was quick enough to pounce on this error & ran into the area but was forced wide by Minter but had the presence of mind to chip back into the 6 yard area for Elder who headed into an empty net.
In the very next minute fortune favoured Tonbridge as a corner into the box was headed goal wards & came back of the post into the hands of Henly. This seemed to deflate Harrow & Tonbridge had a couple more chances to increase their lead, in the 88th minute Jelley down the right saw his low cross deflected over the bar by a stretching Coker & then in the 2nd minute off added on time Akrofi running forward into the area stopped & then curled his shot just past the post. The final whistle went & the vast majority of the crowd went home happy as their side continues to stay in the push for a playoff place.
