Tonbridge Angels push for the play-offs continued with an excellent win over promotion rivals Weston-super-Mare on a cold afternoon at the Longmead Stadium.

They started slowly but soon took control of the game and deservedly took the three points and moved up to ninth place in the table, just five places behind Worthing with a game in hand.

Weston started on the front foot as in the fifth minute Jordan Bastin 20 yards out saw his shot saved by Matt Rowley. Then five minutes later James Dodd in the area also saw his shot saved by Rowley.

A minute later Charlie Pegrum was put through on goal and from an acute angle saw his shot go across the area and out for a throw, then in the 12th minute Pegrum running towards goal saw his 25-yard effort go over the bar.

Seven minutes later a Sean Shields corner was punched clear by Max Harris but only to Pegrum and his 18-yard shot took a deflection and went past the post.

In the 23rd minute the ball in the area bounced around and the ball then fell at Shields feet and his shot from eight yards was saved by Harris the warnings were there for Weston.

Two minutes later and Tonbridge took a deserved lead when Pegrum received the ball on the right side in the area and his square pass to Shields saw him shoot home from eight yards.

It was nearly two in the 28th minute when Shields saw his 20-yard shot saved by Harris and as the ball came out Pegrum saw his headed effort cleared off the line.

In the 43rd minute Shields saw his free kick from just outside the area on the right punched away by Harris. Half time arrived and Tonbridge deserved to be in front as their pressing had caused Weston problems and they controlled the game after the first ten minutes.

The second half continued with Tonbridge in control and Weston relying on breakaways. In the 71st minute Tonbridge doubled their lead when a Shields free kick on the left was swung into the area and Ronny Nelson rose and headed in from six yards game over.

Tonbridge had a few more chances to increase their lead firstly in the 86th minute Crossley Lema on the left went into the area and his shot was saved by Harris then a minute later another Shields set play this time a corner went in the area and Nazir Bakrin from six yards saw his header go just past the post.

Then in the second minute of added on time Trevan Robinson broke free and running towards goal put Jeremy Santos into the area and he went round Harris and then his shot went wide of the post and was cleared.

The final whistle went and the Tonbridge faithful were happy as Larry as they got back to winning ways.
