Tonbridge Angels got back to winning ways against a Chippenham Town side that had never won at Longmead, and that run continues.
Although they fell to yet another defeat, they did play some good football up until the 18 yard box, and then it all fell apart for them. Angels on the other hand were fully deserving of the win.
They are now just two points off the play off positions and next week they entertain the League leaders Yeovil Town, if they play like today they will have a good chance of beating them.
Tonbridge started on the front foot as in the fourth minute Lewis Gard from halfway ran to the edge of the area, his 20 yard curling effort forced Will Henry into a save.
Then three minutes later Paris Lock saw his dribbling run in and around the area force Henry to tip over the bar his shot. From the resulting corner to the back post Jamie Fielding’s header from eight yards hit the top of the net.
Tonbridge were in total control the only problem was they had not scored and in the 22nd minute another chance went a begging as first a free kick to the back post saw Liam Vincent’s shot from eight yards come back off the post and Scott Wagstaff following up saw his shot from 10 yards tipped over the bar by Henry.
A minute later they did take the lead when Sean Shields on the edge of the area saw his shot come back off the cross bar but this time Kodi Lyons-Foster stabbed home from six yards.
Five minutes later Shields saw his 20 yard effort saved by Henry. In the 39th minute Shields saw his first shot blocked but came back to him, his second shot went into the side netting.
In the 43rd minute Chippenham had their first half chance when a corner to the back post found Freddie Grant and from eight yards his header was saved by Jon Henly’s legs & cleared.
The second half was different as Chippenham increased the pace of their attacks but Tonbridge held firm and defended brilliantly as they held firm.
In the 51st minute Tariq Hinds passed to Nathan Odokonyero in the area and he turned and shot just over the bar.
Five minutes later and the home side got their second goal of the game when Lyons-Foster’s long ball found Shields who then ran across the area and then from 15 yards he shot past Henry.
In the 79th minute it could have been three when man of the match Shield chipped into the path of Gard but his volleyed shot went wide.
Chippenham again had their only real half chance in the 80th minute Craig Fasanmade in on goal shot wide.
In the 85th minute Hinds was booked for the second time and sent off but this did not cause any problems for Tonbridge as they saw out the remaining minutes without any problems.
The final whistle went and Tonbridge deservedly picked up the three points while Chippenham would go home empty handed once again.
