Invicta deservedly avenged a narrow home defeat early in the season and came away with three totally deserved points after outplaying big-talking Tonbridge for much of this Boxing Day derby that attracted a big holiday crowd of 606 to the Angels’ Longmead Stadium.
Ian Draycott maintained his good recent scoring form when he turned in a cross from the outstanding Ade Yusuff after just seven minutes but, following a first 45 minutes that Folkestone dominated, new signing Tom Murphy scored from a corner to send the two Kent sides in level at the break.
After a slightly more even second period, a stunning solo goal from midfielder Scott Heard put Folkestone ahead 11 minutes from time and, in the final seconds the talented Alfie Paxman showed the home strikers how to do it with another superbly taken goal.
This win takes Invicta up to seventh in the table and just two points off the play-off places ahead of their second massive Kent derby of this holiday weekend when Margate visit The Fullicks Stadium on New Year’s Day (KO 3pm).
The in-form Draycott took a knock while Kieron McCann was also withdrawn for the closing stages with youth section products Ethan Madden and Brad Baker given the chance to join in this success.
All this after the luckless Yusuff – who played a massive role in this won – wasted the chance to make the scoreline even more embarrassing for the home when he missed from the penalty spot.
