This was a game for the purist with much technical ability on offer and two teams that were happy to play a passing game. Dulwich may have done enough to take all the points but Tonbridge never gave up and grew into the game particularly in the second half.
Angels Defender George Beavan and assistant manager Barry Moore were both missing with flu, Elder played carrying carrying a slight knock and there were Longmead debuts for new signings Dan Bennett and Sam Bantick.
Angels boss Steve McKimm said: “We set ourselves up to deal with their attack and largely we achieved that. Jonny Henly has made a great save near the end to keep us in it but we were pressing them even after that.”
Hamlet’s Manager Gavin Rose was not quite so pleased and thought it was a couple of points dropped. “I was a bit disappointed with the goal we conceded and I thought overall we had enough about us to win the game. Full credit to Tonbridge they’ve kept going and nicked a point.”
The visitors just about shaded the first half although genuine chances were at somewhat of a premium. On six minutes Nana Boakye-Yiadom for Dulwich forced Angels keeper Jonny Henly into a smart block and three minutes later following a miskick by Hamlet custodian Preston Edwards, Joe Tuners first time shot was blocked by Rickie Hayles.
Dulwich as the half progressed were starting to put in some telling crosses from the flanks but the Angels defence was clearing everything that came their way with Henly and Miles particularly dominant. Tonbridge’s Dan Bennet made in the 36th minute mangers to get behind the Dulwich defence with a good run down the right but his cross couldn’t quite reach a blue short.
The second half was just two minutes old when the visitors took the leaf. A strong run from Nyren Clunis on the left wing saw him cut inside and beat Henly with a superb shot into the corner of the goal. Boakye-Yiadom came close soon after but Henly blocked and there was another chance for the visitors through Sanchez Ming.
Tonbridge were still very much in this game and a Chris Kinnear shot needed to be blocked on the line by a Dulwich defender. And as if to prove their new found confidence a brilliant pass from Craig Stone out to the left winger Joe Turner put the midfielder in on goal. Edwards came rushing out but the ball spin from Turners boot into the empty net and the hosts were on level terms.
Both teams went for the winner with perhaps Dulwich having the majority of chances but the big moment came in the 86th minute when Henly made a fantastic save from Boake-Yiadom and effectively meant that honours would be even.
