Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Bath City

Tonbridge Angels came away with a point after Bath dominated the second half but resolute defending & some weak finishing enabled the home side to get the draw.Tonbridge Angels

The game started slowly with both teams eyeing each other up & then in the 10th minute Tonbridge took the lead when Lee Browning’s free kick from 25 yards curled in beating Jason Mellor’s despairing dive.

The lead only lasted 7 minutes as Bath equalised in bizarre fashion, Aaron Brown’s corner was flicked on at the near post by Andy Watkins which seemed to come off the post & bar & then coming out & hitting Henry Muggeridge to go over the line.

The game became stale for a while as both teams lost their way then in the 30th minute Brown going forward saw the space in front of him open up & he went forward & from 18 yards his shot went just past the post.

In the 38th minute a Browning corner found Sonny Miles & his goal bound effort was deflected for another corner. In the 43rd minute Adam Connelly saw his shot from 25 yards go just over the bar & then in the last minute of the half a long ball forward caught Mellor out & he came out of the area & hacked it away but only to Muggeridge who shot straight away from 25 yards only to see it hacked away from the 6 yards out with Mellor stranded.

The second half belonged to Bath as they dominated possession & Tonbridge albeit the home team relied on counter attacks. In the 47th minute Noah Keats running forward from halfway saw his shot from 18 yards go wide.

In a rare attack in the 63rd minute Gavin McCallum on the right crossed to the back post where Mark Lovell was unmarked but his weak side foot effort was easily saved by Mellor.

Three minutes later a long ball forward saw Watkins beat the offside trap & go into the area & he was just about to shoot from six yards when Jon Heath came back made a saving tackle as the ball went back to Lewis Carey.

Four minutes later a free kick by Brown into the back post saw Dave Pratt’s header from five yards go wide of the post. Another chance came Bath’s way in the 75th minute when Brown’s corner was flicked on for Watkins but his diving header went wide.

A minute later a ball into Watkins who turned Gary Elphick & ran into the area & his goal wards shot was blocked by Heath. Another chance came in the 78th minute when another Brown corner found Mark Preece but his header went over the bar & the last chance of the game came when Dan Bowman on the right cut inside & saw his shot from 20 yards parried away by Carey.

The final whistle went & both teams would have had mixed emotions with the result as Tonbridge moved out of the relegation spots & Bath moved up two places nearer the playoff spots.
