Tonbridge Angels 1-0 Haringey Borough

Haringey Borough were knocked off top spot following defeat at Tonbridge Angels by a late goal from substitute Adem Ramadan.

It was a win that was just about deserved by the Angels who over the 90 minutes created the majority of half chances. Many had predicted a high scoring game but in the event the defensive work from both sides was efficient enough against two lively forward lines.

The home side enjoyed the better of the first half forcing Haringey goalkeeper Valero Pajetat into a double save in the 18th minute

On 29 minutes Chinedu McKenzie fed the ball to Alex Read who saw his pile driver gaze the outside of the post. Just two minutes later Joe Turner was through and forced a good save from Pajetat.

Tonbridge piled on the pressure in the last quarter of the half with Jared Small’s low cross just eluding Read and on the stroke of half time McKenzie set up Small who could only shoot straight at Pajetat.

The second period saw more attacking from the visitors who were particularly strong down the right flank and enjoyed a very good opening 15 minutes. Karl Akinwande was asking plenty of questions of the Angels defence and appeared capable of opening things up for his team with a number of teasing crosses.

Gradually however worked themselves back into the game and on 72 minutes D’Sean Theobalds saw his 25yarder crash aginast the Haringey crossbar.

Eleven minutes later, the ball having run loose in the Tonbridge goal area,an effort from the visitors was dragged well wide when it looked easier to score.

It was to prove expensive for Boro as on 90 minutes up stepped Ramadan for his spectacular intervention with a 20 yard screamer that gave Pajetat no chance.

Afterwards the goalscorer said: “To be honest I don’t remember too much about the strike. Arthur had put a cross in which was only half cleared and the ball fell to me. I was aware of a player close behind me so I hit it and it flew in. It’s nice to get a goal of course and the winner but to be honest I’m more pleased about the team getting the three points.”
