Angels edged what was always going to be a tense encounter with the home side needing points to maintain a play off challenge and their visitors equally desperate for the points to preserve their Ryman Premier status.

Angels started the half slightly the stronger with half chances falling to Alex Akrofi, Nick Wheeler and Ugo Udoji in the first 10 minutes, but AFC Sudbury gradually grew into the game and through the next quarter Liam Wales fashioned a couple of decent chances and on 17 minutes Sam Corcoran saw his pile driver go just wide of the left hand post with Angels keeper Jonny Henly a spectator.

As the half reached a conclusion Rob Eagle for the visitors brought Henly into action while on 44 minutes Elder had a great chance from a Nick Wheeler corner.

The home side had much the better of the second half with Wheeler increasingly influential on the left flank. As early as the 46th minute there was a huge chance for Nathan Elder from a Wheeler cross but the header was straight at Marcus Garnham in the AFC goal.

On 57 minutes Akrofi should have done better again with a headed chance chance but it seemed only a matter of time before Tonbridge would break the deadlock. That moment came in the 78th minute when a Wheeler corner was converted by Elder past Garnham.

Sudbury tried their utmost to get something from the game but in truth the nearest they got was an Oliver Dunlop shot that flashed past the left hand post in stoppage time.
