Tomlin on Hessenthaler’s wish list
Tomlin on Hessenthaler’s wish list

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has revealed his interest in Gavin Tomlin although no contact has been made with Dagenham & Redbridge.

The versatile forward joined the Daggers on a three-year deal in the summer of 2010 and featured sparingly last season before signing on loan for Torquay in March, scoring four goals in 15 appearances as the Gulls lost out in the League Two play-off final.

Tomlin has started 15 of Dagenham’s 24 league games this term, albeit failing to find the net. The 28-year-old has been linked with Gills and Hessenthaler has admitted speaking to the player’s agent but talks have progressed no further.

Hessenthaler, who hopes to bring in one or two players ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash at home to Stoke, told the club’s official website: “He (Tomlin) was spoken about a few weeks back, I liked him at Torquay last season.

“His agent has spoken to me but I haven’t spoken to John Still (Dagenham manager) about him. Gavin Tomlin is Dagenham’s player and that’s it at the moment.”

Hessenthaler remains hopeful of landing striker Jo Kuffour from Bristol Rovers on a permanent deal this month after the striker bagged seven goals in 12 games during a loan spell which ended in late December.

However, it seems unlikely that any deal will be done in time for Saturday’s FA Cup game with Stoke City as the striker is still suffering from bronchitis.
