Togolese international striker, Thomas Dossevi, has been linked with a move to The Valley.
Dossevi has been released by Thai club Chonburi and is a free agent.
He will be 34 next month and played for Swindon during the 2010/11 season, scoring 3 goals in 27 appearances.
Dossevi does not fit Chris Powell’s ‘young and hungry’ template and it would be a surprise if Charlton did make a move for him.
Following the postponement of the Kent Senior Cup game at Herne Bay, the Addicks arranged a friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge at Sparrows Lane on Wednesday afternoon. The game was a good work out for the fringe players and resulted in a 3-2 win.
Addicks youngster, Kasey Palmer, came off the bench to feature for the England Under 17 team against the Netherlands in the week.
Midfielder Palmer was included in the England squad along with Charlton teammate, Joe Gomez. Gomez played in an earlier match in the Algarve Tournament which also included Germany and hosts, Portugal.
Following Phil Parkinson’s dismissal in January 2011, the man the new Charlton owners wanted to replace him was Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe. Howe and his assistant, Jason Tindall, came desperately close to joining the Addicks. There was also interest from Crystal Palace and Burnley.
Howe signed a new contract with the Cherries after speaking to Charlton, only to leave a few days later for Turf Moor. Howe was quite emotional after his last in charge of Bournemouth, a Friday night televised game at Colchester. He never really looked as though he was convinced he was doing the right thing.
His time with Burnley did not see the Clarets regain their coveted Premier League place and when the opportunity arose to rejoin Bournemouth last October, it proved an irresistible temptation for the former defender.
Bournemouth had slumped since Howe’s departure. From contesting the play-offs, they were in the relegation zone when he returned on 12 October.
The reunion revived the fortunes off both parties. Howe was an instant hit and the club started climbing the table. On Tuesday, a late Brett Pitman goal at Crewe, sealed the win that saw Bournemouth go to the top of League One. I wonder if there were a few wry smiles in the Valley boardroom?
