Karl Robinson has now been in charge for four games, and has overseen two draws and two defeats.
The Cup game at Milton Keynes is the only time Charlton have scored under Robinson.
Robinson is known for producing free-flowing, attacking teams, so it is surprising that the Addicks have only one goal to show from their four games under his stewardship.
In most games, Charlton have created chances. At Bradford last week, their first half performance was as good as anything they have produced all season, but they failed to capitalise on their chances.
The Addicks were the better team for much of the game at Milton Keynes, but only had Adam Chicksen’s goal to show for their efforts.
The goal drought under Robinson is in stark contrast to their scoring record under caretaker boss, Kevin Nugent.
Charlton scored eight times during Nugent’s three games in charge, including a five goal haul at Bristol Rovers. The two wins and a draw under Nugent earned the interim boss a nomination for the November Manager Of The Month award.
Robinson faces three tough away games at Millwall, Milton Keynes and Southend before the January transfer window opens.
The former MK Don’s boss is a devotee of 4-2-3-1 but does not currently have the players at his disposal to operate the system.
Robinson has admitted that he wants to bring wingers and a number ten in. But he will also be anxiously waiting to see if he will be have the services of Ademola Lookman and Ezri Konsa available for the rest of the season.
January will be a busy month for the club on the recruitment front, but in the meantime, Robinson will be hoping his strike force rediscover their shooting boots.
