Three Late Arrivals
Three Late Arrivals

Charlton‎ brought three players in at the end of the January window- experienced Birmingham midfielder, David Davis, much travelled Sunderland winger, Aiden McGeady, and Manchester City youngster, Matt Smith.

Smethwick born Davis is 28-years-old and has made well over 150 league appearances for the Blues. He has been a regular starter for them this season, so it was surprising that Birmingham were prepared to loan him out.

He has started the last three games for the Addicks, and turned in solid, if unspectacular, performances – typical David Davis in fact. He is similar in style to Darren Pratley and will always walk a disciplinary tightrope. He has now accrued seven yellow cards this season.

Matt Smith is in the early stages of his career.‎ Just 20-years-old, he is a box-to-box midfielder who came through the Manchester City academy system.
He was on loan at Queens Park Rangers in the first half of the season, but failed to make an impact with the west Londoners.

With Sam Field having further injury problems, more is likely to be seen of Smith in the later stages of the season and in his brief cameos at The Valley he has shown promise.

But of the three late arrivals, McGeady is the one who could supply the wow factor. The vastly experienced Glasgow born 33-year-old‎ is an Irish international who played for Celtic and Moscow Spartak before joining Everton. He has also played for  Sheffield Wednesday, Preston and Sunderland.

McGeady came on as a sub for the Black Cats in the Play-Off Final against the Addicks at Wembley in May, but has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light since Phil Parkinson’s arrival.

He caught the eye on occasions against Black‎burn on Saturday, but he will be judged on his end product. Lee Bowyer will expect goals and assists from him.
