Three Bridges v Sittingbourne – Preview

Two teams with very similar records in 2019 meet in Sussex on Saturday.

Sittingbourne have won once in six games this year, while Three Bridges are searching for their first win, having drawn once and lost the other five.

The solitary Sittingbourne victory came last Saturday when they won 4-3 in an exciting game away to Phoenix Sports, with teenager Roman Campbell scoring twice and going within inches of a hat-trick as another powerful shot hit the post.

The other five matches – including Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat by Ashford – have all ended in defeats, though all those games were against teams from the top half of the league, including three of the top five.

Three Bridges’ five defeats have all been by the odd goal and in that time they’ve played the top two sides in the league, losing just 1-0 to both Cray Wanderers and Ashford.

Their latest defeat came on Tuesday night when they led Haywards Heath

3-1 but ended up losing 4-3, with the winner coming at the end of 10 minutes’ added time.

Sittingbourne’s win at Phoenix and defeat by Ashford saw them still without the injured Tommy Loynes, Lex Allan, Ben Fitchett and Billy Lewins.

Tommy Fagg stood in as a central defender in both games, paired with Jack Morrell in one game and Joshua Spencer in the other, though he ended up in midfield on Tuesday night as Sittingbourne went three at the back near the end to try and rescue something from the game.

Three Bridges go into Saturday’s match seven points higher than Sittingbourne in the league, but both teams have conceded 47 goals so far this season.

Sittingbourne have yet to keep a clean sheet in a league game all season and that’s one of the reasons why they’re stuck near the bottom of the table and in the thick of a relegation battle.

The teams have already met this season, in November, when Three Bridges pulled off a 1-0 win with a goal in the last minute even though they’d played much of the second half with only 10 men after a red card challenge.

Sittingbourne last visited Three Bridges in October 2016 and won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal by Tom Carlse.
