Thousands turn out for Yarnold tour

Lizzy Yarnold was given an heroic welcome on an open top bus tour of Sevenoaks and surrounding towns on Wednesday.

The double Olympic gold medallist, from West Kingsdown near Brands Hatch, has been on a victory tour through West Kent, the area where she grew up.

Thousands lined the streets, including school children from various schools, to welcome Lizzy who struck gold in the skeleton in the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

It was Lizzy Yarnold’s second victory tour, after winning Gold in 2014 and 2018 in the Winter Olympics.

Lizzy came off the bus to talk to students in the Sevenoaks area about her Olympic victory and to try and inspire them to be the next generation of athletes.

Talking to KSN at Trinity School in Sevenoaks, Lizzy said:

“Hopefully me coming to schools like this will inspire some young people to be active and live out their dreams.”

“I was just an ordinary girl from Kent who was allowed to follow my dreams, supported by my family and never gave up on those dreams.”

“It’s important that we allow these young people to be courageous and do what inspires them, whether that be sport or something else.”

“I’m a firm believer in getting young people active and hopefully me coming around with a medal ignites that passion in them all.”

Yarnold’s your left Sevenoaks at 9:30am on Wednesday, passing through villages such as Otford before ending up in West Kingsdown.
