Russell Slade is beginning to impose his vision at the club. He explained to the South London Press some of the changes he has made.
Players spend a lot of time in the dining area at Sparrows Lane, and Slade has revamped the facility to make it more welcoming.
He has a conduct code and fines are levied on those who breech the rules. The players have been issued with a booklet which details the rules.
He also explained his footballing philosophy, he is a manager who likes to play on the front foot, particularly at home.
The new gaffer has made an impression on long serving skipper, Johnnie Jackson, who said this to the club’s website:
“The new gaffer has come in with new ideas and there’s a positive outlook.
“The lads are enjoying training straight away, the new boys seem like good lads and you can see they want to work hard.
“We stressed that the recruitment was very important this summer and we seem to be getting that right so far.
“Hopefully we can get a few more to freshen up the squad and take it into the season. The early signs are positive.”
One player who will not be part of the Slade revolution is Romanian striker, George Tucudean, whose contract was terminated on Friday.
Tucudean made his debut at Brentford in August 2014 alongside Igor Vetokele. He struggled to make an impression, and has spent the past two seasons back in his homeland.
The 25-year-old scored just twice in 20 league appearances, but could have made himself a cult hero.
He will mainly be remembered for spurning a golden late chance at The Valley, which would have given the Addicks a rare win over bitter rivals, Millwall.
The fixture against Dutch second tier outfit, RKC Waalwijk, was confirmed on Friday.
The game will be played at The Valley on Saturday 30 July, and will be Charlton’s final warm-up game before the season starts.
Full details are yet to be released, but admission prices are likely to be £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, with just the lower sections of the North and West stands open.
