The Weekend Preview

Another four Kent sides enter the FA Cup this weekend as the knockout competition reaches its final qualifying round.

The tie of the round this weekend is undoubtedly Dover vs Bromley. Both sides have a good recent history in the cup with Chris Kinnear’s side playing MK Dons and Crystal Palace in recent years with Bromley having reached the first round four times since 2009.

Further up the county’s coast, Margate host Leatherhead on Saturday afternoon in what is expected to be a tight game. Both teams have 16 points in the Bostik Premier division with only goal difference separating them but it’s Margate who have the better record, having only lost twice in the league all season.

The final home game for a Kent side comes from the Gallagher Stadium where Maidstone face Enfield Town, who have already knocked Phoenix Sports out of the competition. The visitors come into the game in good form, having not lost in their last seven matches.

Both North Kent sides still in the competition face away trip of they are to reach the first round proper. Dartford, who beat Needham Market 6-1 in the previous round, face a trip to Burgess Hill Town whilst Ebbsfleet United will look to return to winning ways in Essex against East Thurrock.

The remaining game comes from Slough Town of the Evo-Stik south league who Folkestone Invicta will face on Saturday afternoon.

Because of these cup ties, there is only one game for us to focus on in the Bostik Premier this weekend. Tonbridge Angels have the chance to push into the playoff spots if they can get three points at Hendon this weekend.

There is, however, a full schedule in the Bostik South this weekend, with the standout tie coming from Hayes Lane where Cray Wanderers have a chance to go into the playoff spots with a win- but they’ll need to beat Corinthian Casuals who know a win can take them into the automatic promotion places.

If results go their way Sittingbourne have the chance to go into top spot this weekend when they make the trip to Shoreham whilst, at the other end of the table, Ashford and Faversham will look to pull themselves away from the relegation places. The whites will make the trip to the South coast to face Hastings this Saturday whilst Ashford host East Grinstead Town.

The Nuts and Bolts are bolstered by four new signings ahead of the weekend after Stuart Zannone- the club’s record scorer, Sam Zannone, Jack Healey and Tommy Cooney all made the move to Homelands on Friday afternoon.

Elsewhere, Ramsgate welcome Horsham to Thanet, Herne Bay host Walton Casuals and Thamesmead make the trip to Chipstead.
