Some of Kent’s teams return to action this weekend after last week off due to cup fixtures.
In League One Gillingham welcome Port Vale to Priestfield. Just one point separates the sides so avoiding defeat is vital for Ady Pennock as his side don’t want to slip further down the table. You can read the full preview of the game here as we’ll be giving you coverage of the game.
One of the sides coming back after a week’s break is Dover who were unable to play last week as a result of Boreham Wood’s FA Trophy commitments. However, it’s still been a busy week at Crabble with a 4-0 Kent Senior Cup win against VCD on Monday before signing Bondz N’Gala, who was unable to sign for Gillingham on Transfer Deadline Day. Nicky Deverdics has also returned on loan from Hartlepool.
Chris Kinnear’s side will welcome Wrexham to the Kent coast on Saturday knowing they’ll need a win to guarantee staying in the playoff places of the National League.
Elsewhere in the top tier of non-league football, Bromley make the long trip to Tranmere in one of KSN’s featured gams this weekend. The Ravens lost Adam Cunnington to Billericay Town this week. They travel to the North West expecting a tough game with their hosts in the middle of a playoff chase whilst the north Kent side currently lie in 11th.
Further down the table, Maidstone travel north to fellow strugglers York. Having only recorded one win so far in 2017, Jay Saunders’ team will see the trip to Bootham Crescent as a chance to get a much needed three points.
There is one featured game in the National League South this week, where Welling host East Thurrock at Park View Road. After two cup defeats in the last seven days a win is vital for co-caretaker manager Harry Wheeler, as you can read in our full preview here.
Ebbsfleet United’s push for promotion from the NL South continues on Saturday when they travel to Whitehawk for the first time since their playoff semi-final win there last season. The Fleet haven’t lost in the league since Boxing Day, resulting in Daryl McMahon winning the league’s Manager of the Month award for January this week.
Also searching for promotion are Ebbsfleet’s rivals Dartford. Tony Burman’s side travel to Gosport tomorrow looking to continue the pressure on the top two. Their opponents on Saturday are struggling for form, giving the Darts hope of another three points.
Another team struggling in the second tier is Margate. They haven’t tasted victory in the league since October and sit bottom of the table nine points from safety. They travel to 8th place Hampton and Richmond Borough on Saturday. Nikki Bull will be without Ira Jackson and Fumnaya Shotman who have returned to their parent club after their loan contracts expired.
Continuing down the pyramid, Tonbridge Angels host Grays Athletic in the Ryman Premier. The Angels are currently fighting for a playoff place and come into the game against the bottom of the table side from Essex in fifth. Boss Steve McKimm has pushed away the talk of an easy win, despite the differing situations of the sides: “We are preparing for a very hard game.
“Jamie Stewart their Manager will be doing everything possible to save off the threat of relegation and he certainly has the experience to do it”. KSN will be at Longmead to see if the home side can continue their impressive home form, having not lost on their own pitch in the league since early December.
Folkestone find themselves 15th in their return to the Ryman premier this season. They’ll look to improve on that when they welcome fellow mid table side Worthing to Cheriton Road. They’ll look to return to winning ways after failing to get all three points in their last two games.
We have one featured games from both the Ryman North and South this weekend. Cray will look to build on their last result, a 4-1 away win against South Park, with another win against Lewes at Hayes Lane. You can read a full preview for this game here.
We will also be at Bayliss Avenue where Thamesmead Town will look to break out of their troubling form. It won’t be easy however as they welcome second placed Brightlingsea Regent to the north of the county.
Elsewhere in the southern portion of the Ryman League another playoff chasing team- Hythe Town- travel to struggling Molesey whilst Folkestone will look to build from their win in midweek when they travel to Dorking Wanderers. Sittingbourne are also on the road as they travel to Tooting and Mitcham on Saturday before hosting Hearne Bay on Tuesday.
Before making the short trip to Sittingbourne in midweek, Hearne Bay must first face Chipstead away. They’ll be hoping for a win with their opponents just one place below them, whilst knowing three points is likely to result in safety from relegation. They’ll be without Danny Walder who left to join SCEFL team Sheppey United this week.
Chatham will also be hoping for some much needed points to help them get out of the relegation places, but they travel to sixth placed Corinthian Casuals whilst mid table Ramsgate, who have only lost once in 2017 so far, host Carshalton Athletic.
