MK Dons keeper, David Martin, looks certain to be an early arrival at The Valley this summer.
Martin will replace Declan Rudd, who has returned to parent club Norwich. The Canaries have released former England keeper, John Ruddy, and Rudd looks set to take the gloves at Carrow Road next season.
Rudd missed eight games through injury during his time at Charlton, with academy graduate, Dillon Phillips, deputising.
Phillips played 36 games on loan for Cheltenham in their 2015/16 National League title winning season. The young stopper impressed the Whaddon Road faithful, and he even went to support the team when he was out injured.
He made his Addicks bow in this season’s Checkatrade Trophy, and made his League debut in the 5-1 win at Bristol Rovers in November.
Ironically, his run in the side ended with the return fixture with the Pirates, a 4-1 win at The Valley in early January.
That run included the home game with Sheffield United, and the trip to Millwall just before Christmas.
Phillips acquitted himself well, and had no problem adjusting to football at League One level.
Many were surprised that Rudd went straight back into the side, and unfortunately for Phillips, he never got another opportunity.
Karl Robinson has said he wants to recruit two keepers during the summer, which suggests Phillips is likely to leave The Valley.
He will be 22 next month and needs regular football now. He looked good enough in his mid season run in the side to be a regular, but it seems Robinson has other ideas.
If Martin does arrive, he would almost certainly be the club’s number one, and Phillips may feel that another season on the bench is not in his best interests.
If he does leave The Valley, Cheltenham are likely to head the queue for his services.
