The Non League Weekend Preview
The Non League Weekend Preview

With another round of FA Cup matches over, the county’s football clubs can return their focus to league action this weekend.

In the National League, where cup action hasn’t yet effected the season, Dover Athletic could go top this weekend. They sit one place behind Aldershot on goal difference and will be hoping that they can return from Guieseley on Saturday with three points. Chris Kinnear will be hoping his side’s trip to Yorkshire will be a part of the scintillating away form they’ve experienced this season, picking up 12 points from a possible 15.

Only one goal separates Bromley and Maidstone after 11 matches this season and, whilst Maidstone host 14th placed Gateshead, Bromley face a tougher challenge when they travel to Halifax.

Finally in non-league’s top tier, Ebbsfleet United make the short trip to Boreham Wood hoping to improve on their one league win so far this season.

Dartford have made an incredible start in the National League South this season. They currently sit top of the table having lost just one game and scoring 27 goals in their opening 11 matches. This weekend the Darts face one of their longest trips of the year when they travel to 17th placed Weston-Super-Mare.

Welling United have had an indifferent start to the season with their three wins, three loses and five draws, but they’ll look to move that form towards a winning record when they make the trip to the south coast to face Havant and Waterlooville.

Out of the three Kent teams playing in the Bostik premier this season, Folkestone Invicta arguably have the toughest test of the weekend. Invicta host second placed Hendon at the Cheriton Road Sports Ground. However, it is expected that their newest signing, Ryan Cooper will be in the squad. The full-back who can also play in midfield signed this week after leaving Faversham Town.

Margate are currently experiencing a great run of form, having won their last seven games across all competitions. They’ll welcome Harrow Borough to Hartsdown Park on Saturday knowing three points could send them into the playoff places.

Tonbridge Angels are back in action tomorrow and, having only won one of their last seven matches, they’ll be hoping for victory on Saturday at Burgess Hill Town to take them away from an early relegation battle.

Kent’s sides have had a mixed start in the Bostik South this year. Despite this, the county’s standout performers so far have been Sittingbourne, who currently sit fifth in the table, thereby occupying the third playoff spot. They travel to Horsham this weekend.

At the other end of the table, it’s been a tough start to the season for Ramsgate and Ashford United, who sit 22nd and 21st in the table respectively. Ashford have the early kick off this weekend when Guernsey travel to Homelands on Saturday before Ramsgate – who have lost their last five games- travel to Thamesmead Town for the regular 3pm kick off.

Elsewhere in the league, Herne Bay make the trip along the north of the county to Cray Wanderers, Hythe Town play South Park in Surrey and Faversham Town will look to put their FA Cup disappointment behind them when they welcome Corinthian Casuals to the Shepherd Neame Stadium.
