In the lead up to Christmas, KSN’s football editor Mike Green has been talking to some of the county’s bosses armed with a series of Festive Season based questions.
And so, on ”the fourth KSN day of Christmas”, it’s a “Brickey calling boss” – Greenie’s been talking to Sittingbourne’s boss Nick Davis…
KSN – What’s you earliest Christmas memory?
NICK DAVIS – Being a Brentford fan going with my dad to Gillingham v Brentford, must have been 1987.
KSN – What’s your best Christmas football memory?
ND – the Thanet derby for Ramsgate v Margate in the Ryman Prem in front of 2000. Beating them 1-0 was a special occasion.
KSN – And what’s your worst?
ND – top of the south for Fisher we were away to Worthing on Boxing Day. Our keeper was sent off in the first minute and we lost the game 4-0. All my family from Sussex were there watching. I wanted the ground to open up. Still we went on to do the treble that year.
KSN – What’s the best or worst football based present you’ve ever been given or received?
ND – well a friend of mine bought my son a Portsmouth strip for Christmas last year.
KSN – Would you change anything about Christmas football?
ND – wouldn’t change anything except maybe kick off times – an early start is always nice!
KSN – If you were preparing a “Mid-term” School report on Sittingbourne’s season so far, what grade would you give the side and why?
ND – grade B; this side is pulling up trees at the moment for me and the club. To be on 39 points, 6 points from the playoffs is a fantastic achievement so far.
KSN – Who’s your team’s Player of 2016?
ND – It is hard to pick one, because as a group they have been fantastic together. If I had to pick one, then it would be Tom Carsle, he’s been outstanding.
KSN – Is there a player you’ve seen either live or on TV who’s really excited you in 2016?
ND – Jamie Vardy is an inspiration to all non-league footballers. It’s proof that anything is possible!
KSN – What do you hope your players have for Christmas dinner?
ND – Well I expect them to eat what they normally would, just go easy on the alcohol – please boys!
KSN – What’s your hope for football in general in 2017?
ND – If we can mirror the second half of the season to that of the first, that would put us on 78 points. That would put us close to a top 8 finish, which would be a remarkable achievement!
KSN – if your Chairman could buy you one player as a Christmas present who would it be and why?
ND – Ha ha – a 30 goal a season striker would be nice – don’t care who it is.
KSN – Finally your Festive message for the Sittingbourne fans?
ND – Sittingbourne have the best support in the league in my opinion and all the squad, staff and management are very grateful for this. I just hope we can continue in the same vein in the second part of the season to the first, to give them more good performances to shout about.
Many thanks to Nick for taking part in the series and a very Merry Christmas to him and everyone at Sittingbourne – join us again tomorrow to see who is the featured boss on ”the fifth KSN day of Christmas!”
