Thamesmead Town v Guernsey preview
Thamesmead Town v Guernsey preview

The only way is up for Tommy Warrilow and his Thamesmead Town side as it’s their turn to welcome the Green Lions from Guernsey to Kent this weekend for the early 1:00pm kick off with both sides desperate for the three points to lift them up the BOSTIK South East division.

For the home side, they go into the game rock bottom of the table but knowing that victory could lift them up a number of places in the relatively still “young” League table…

It’ll be the first time in three visits that the two sides have met on the mainland on a Saturday afternoon, and Warrilow will be hoping that come the end of the game, it’ll be three home wins from three games in the series…

The current Guernsey club were formed in 2011 and became a member of the Combined Counties Football League Division One for the 2011–12 season. The proposal to establish the club and join the league was developed by the Guernsey Football Association in an attempt to offer the island’s senior elite players the opportunity to progress further and test themselves in the English non-league pyramid system, and are now of course regular visitors to the County.

These two sides’ first meeting will forever have a part in the history of the FA Cup as our meeting at Footes Lane in 2016 was and is so far the only time a tie from the Greatest Cup Competition in the World has been played in the Channel Islands.  That game ended as a draw as did last season’s League game between the two sides, whilst the Mead won the epic Cup replay on penalties and comprehensively won the League game here at Princes last season.

Given the travelling involved, “traditionally” the Green Lions are stronger on a Saturday rather than in midweek and so this afternoon’s contest could prove so crucial to both sides as they both look to kick-start the respective League seasons before it’s too late…

And don’t be late for the kick off – IT’S A 1.00PM START
