Wroxham started the brighter and Jack Hopkins was forced to clear off of the line early on from shot from the edge of the box before David Hinton blazed wide as the home side failed to clear. In their next attack, Mead keeper Robb Budd had to be quick and lwbrave diving at the feet of Kyle Baker as the wide man burst through onto a fine pass.
The Mead finally showed going forward and were a fraction away from taking the lead as Michael Spencers brilliant ball in from the right found a sliding Tyrus Gordon-Young at the far post who managed to get the ball past Wroxham keeper Elliot Pride only for defender Steven Taylor to clear off the line. Shortly afterward, the home side when close again when Rob Carter couldn’t stretch enough to reach Ashley Probets free kick.
With the first half almost at an end, Wroxham took the lead. Christy Finch took advantage of some shocking defending to race clear, and his driven ball across the six yards line for Remy Gordon to gleefully ram the ball home.
The second half began with the visitors on top, with Budd doing very well to deny Finch. But there was nothing that Budd could do on fifty minutes when Hinton’s magnificent lob from 20 yards after a corner hadn’t been cleared left the Mead stopper rooted to the spot.
The home side then enjoyed a spell that was to prove make or break – sadly it was to prove the latter as the home side just couldn’t find a way through. Gordon-Young twice went close before Pride made a magnificent save to deny Richard Butler’s powerful header, and then a Probets free kick skimmed the top of the cross bar.
Wroxham sealed the point with the games only moment of controversy when Butler seemed to be held on the ground by Forshaw, and referee Kaye seemed about to blow for a free kick before changing him mind to allow Finch to cap a fine personal display with a well places shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.
After shaking hands with the match officials for one last time, and coming out of a post match huddle, McMahon was visibly shaken when he saw that both sets of players had formed a guard of honour for him and physio Alan Woodward (who is also leaving the club) to depart the pitch in Thamesmead colours one last time.
