Kent is able to celebrate a World Motorsports Champion with the news that Ade Clifton on Saturday triumphed in the 2 Litre Stock Car World Championships.
Tenterden-based Ade – who is the son of former Canterbury Crusaders Speedway rider, Graham Clifton – has been scoring well at the various qualifying rounds in this year’s global championship for 2 litre Sierra Stock Cars and so found himself in second spot on the starting grid at the Championship Grand Final at the famous Matchams Park circuit in Ringwood, Hants on Saturday.
Nicknamed “The Worm” in the Stock Car world, where he’s been a successful competitor for 15 years, 31-year-old Ade took the lead from the green flag and despite having to endure multiple “caution” periods closing up the field, he managed to build a handy lead each time, ensuring he left the New Forest with by far his biggest title in a decade and a half years of contact oval racing.
Ade commented: “It’s a dream come true to claim the World title – many thanks to all of my backers and supporters and my family and friends who came along to cheer me on, including my Dad Graham and Nigel Weeks, and special thanks also to Jon Woods Race Engines.”
As well as the silverware & prize money and plaudits that come with being a World Champion, Ade will now ride throughout 2016 with the coveted gold roof on his car – denoting his number one status in the world of 2 litre Stock Cars!
