Taylor and Green ideal partners?
Taylor and Green ideal partners?

Both Lyle Taylor and Andre Green were on the score sheet against Barnsley on Saturday.

There were signs that their embryonic partnership could prove to be as fruitful as the one Taylor shared with Karlan Grant in the first half of last season.

Here are Taylor’s thoughts on Green:

“For 45 minutes, or as long as my legs were holding out, me and Dre were a real handful.

“I have to heap praise on him. He’s had a tough week with family stuff.

“For him to turn up and do what he did today – you could see what that goal meant to him.”

Taylor sustained knee ligament damage while on international duty with Montserrat, and was out for all of September, October and November.

He returned to the t‎eam in early December, but then picked up a thigh problem which sidelined him for three weeks in January.

How does he assess his current form?

“I just need to get fitter, I started cramping just before half-time, minor little cramps, but after half-time my legs were going – I couldn’t sustain that level of effort.

“Dre did a lot of my running. He deserved to get the three points and definitely deserved the goal,” said Taylor who went on to talk about his own goal:

‎”It’s a poacher’s goal. It’s a striker’s goal. It’s always nice striking the ball in the top corner from 25 yards but the ones from five, six, seven or eight yards, they are the nice ones.

“You have to be in the right place at the right time. It’s a ball in the box, you hope someone gets up and wins the first one and then I stuck it beyond the keeper.

“You ask questions if you’re onside or offside later.”

Green was used as a winger at Villa, but is loving his role as a striker at The Valley.

And Green returned the complimens Taylor paid him:

‘I’m happy with how I’ve started. Hopefully I can get more goals, it’s what I’ve been brought here to do.

“Before signing here, I knew the club was renowned for bringing through great players and hopefully I can improve my game.

“At Villa I was a winger but when I was with Lee Bowyer, I said I was happy to play anywhere – especially up front.

“I like to score goals and you get more chances there. I love that scoring feeling. I’m happy with anywhere in the front three.

“I feel like I’m turning into a confident striker, I know how to play up there. Hopefully I can keep scoring, I know I have to score to stay in the team so it’s up to me,”said Green, who added his thoughts about the Barnsley game:

“We knew what the game meant to us, what we had to do to climb up the table.

“It was a six pointer; we knew that all week leading up to the game. The pressure was on us but it was on them as well.

“We both had to win, we’re delighted to get the three points. Hopefully we can go on a run now.”

Green then gave his thoughts on Taylor and Charlton:.

“Lyle staying was massive. Every time he’s played, we haven’t lost. It brings me more confidence knowing I have him next to me, knowing we can score a lot of goals.

“It was really easy to come here and feel at home, it’s such a family club. The gaffer and coaching staff told me that before I came. The lads told me that and were so welcoming when I came in.”Everyone trains together at the training ground. All the young age groups as well. Everyone’s a part of it.

“You walk past people, and everyone says hello. It makes it a lot easier for me to go out there and do my best on a Saturday.”

Early days but if the Addicks have found a new G&T partnership‎ to rival the one Grant and Taylor shared, it will go a long way to ensuring their safety.
