So, after many months of talking about it, the eve of the biggest running challenge of my life to date is about to commence – and I want to provide a very quick update.
As I’m sure many of you know, I’m running a minimum of 5km everyday in 2017 – but now I’m joined by my wife Nicola, my good friend Steve Wolfe and also a new member to the ‘pack’, Marie Debont-Booth. Over the winter months training has gone very well, albeit I’ve had a lazy last 10 days by only running Xmas Eve and Xmas Day and also (deliberately) piled on a few extra pounds of weight ready for the upcoming test.
For me personally I’m eager to start. I’ve set a target in my own head to well and truly smash and beat the annual total of 1825km – after a few months you will be able to guess what my target will be. Nicola and I will also be doing our first Brighton Marathon in April alongside Steve and other good friends, so we will in any event up the mileage in preparation.
Are we all ready? – You bet we are! The promotions are done and of course, as it’s all in aid of charitable donations to the Kent Sports Trust Foundation we have set-up our Just Giving pages:

My own targets for this challenge:
1. Raise and beat my £2500 target
2. Beat the minimum distance of 1825km over the year
3. Support my fellow runners taking part in this challenge – we will all have our good and bad days.
4. Try my hardest to get as many people involved in running as possible. If you fancy a run of any distance or any pace – newbies of course are welcome, please give me a shout.
5. Raise awareness of the Kent Sports Trust Foundation (http://www.kentsportstrust.
Over the last few days we have decided to start the challenge a day early so we will now start on New Year’s Eve to incorporate parkruns.
Parkruns are, and always will be a crucial part of our running – as are our running with the Rebel Runners from Medway on a Wednesday evening.
Finally, there are three more things for this last article of 2016..
Firstly, thanks to my shirt sponsors; Teekay, MTS, Advance FM, Saint Gobain PAM, Bermad and Trimble Pulse.
Secondly, look out for monthly/bi-monthly blogs by me and/or Steve.
Lastly, if you see any of us struggling please give us a shout, honk, tweet or even join us – we need all of the support possible.
Enjoy the New Year celebrations – for some of us it will be a very sober one.
Lee and Nicola will be running at Malling Parkrun on Saturday 31st December at 9am, then on New Year’s Day they will be running parkruns at Maidstone (9am) and Shorne Woods (10:30am).
