This Kent Plate final threw up a local derby between two sides whose differing fortunes meant they had not clashed in the last couple of seasons as the county town club faced near neighbours Aylesford who had come from behind to shock higher placed Beckenham in their semi-final.
This was a far-cry from the league opener between these 2 sides, where Tunbridge Wells (TW) just shaved the game by a point.
This Kent Cup Plate semi-final should have been played at Maidstone in March but fixture congestion determined it had to be put back and playing an evening game, under lights at Canterbury, made sense to both clubs.
