Blackpool, after just five games, are 1/6 favourites for relegation. The Tangerines are of course managed by former Charlton boss, Jose Riga.
Second favourites for the drop at 2/1 are Huddersfield. The Terriers appointed Riga’s predecessor at The Valley, Chris Powell, as their new manager on Tuesday.
Ironically, Huddersfield will travel to Bloomfield Road on the last day of the season for what could be a relegation decider.
Powell beat off competition from current Huddersfield caretaker boss, Mark Lillis, and Coventry’s Stephen Pressley to land the job.
Powell will be assisted at the John Smith’s by his Valley assistant, Alex Dyer. Hopefully, Powell can find a place on his staff for Huddersfield legend Lillis.
It will be a tough job for Powell and he will not be afforded the patience by Huddersfield’s fans as he was at The Valley.
Lee Clarke’s negative approach was not universally popular at the John Smith’s, even when the club had their record breaking unbeaten run.
Whether Powell’s largely defensive strategy will win the fans’ approval remains to be seen.
Powell is certain of a warm welcome when he brings his new side to The Valley at the end of February.
Charlton fans will be pleased to see their hugely popular former boss back in the game and will wish him well…..except for that game when he returns to The Valley!
